HELPING YOUR DAUGHTER MAKE CAREERS CHOICES

This page holds a number of resources to help support your daughter make her careers choices.

 

It contains:

• a help guide to working out a career plan with your daughter;

• a series of useful documents;

• a guide to how your daughter can use her unifrog account;

• and

• some general careers-related links.

How can I help my child with their career plans?

• Talk about likes and dislikes with your daughter, and discuss how her preferences might relate to career choices.

• Research with your daughter the areas they can go into, and most importantly how they might get there.

• Help them to explore the possible employers, apprenticeship providers and further education courses available in your local area. There are lots of virtual opportunities shared with your daughter. Get her to check her school email.

• Encourage her to participate in out of school activities. These are valuable in themselves and will help greatly later on in giving a good impression to people like employers or course tutors.

• Encourage your daughter to seek advice when necessary from either Sacred Heart’s guidance advisor or the Careers Team at Newcastle. Matt Ellaway is our school link (matt.ellaway@newcastle.gov.uk).

How can I use Unifrog to help my daughter with their career plans?

• All Sacred Heart students are in the process of being enrolled for a Unifrog account.

• Unifrog provides 24/7 access to the online platform which is accessible on any mobile device either at home or at school.

• Unifrog is a one-stop-shop where students (alongside their parents) can easily explore and seek free impartial, accurate and up to date information regarding Sixth Form, HE/FE and apprenticeship opportunities.

• Unifrog enables students to not only research universities in the UK, but also in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. The site also gives specific advice on applying for Oxbridge universities.

• Apprenticeship opportunities are updated every 24 hours and can be filtered by location, pathway or type.

• Unifrog also offers the opportunity for Year 11 students to compare Sacred Heart Provision Sixth Form provision alongside other sixth form and college providers.

• KS4 and KS5 students will use Unifrog to compose their future CV’s and Personal Statements.

 

Students access the platform by clicking a link in their welcome email, where they create a password and can begin using the platform.

​

They login to Unifrog using their email address and password and they can do so from any computer, tablet or smartphone.

​

We encourage you to use the platform with your child so you can support them through the process of deciding their next step.
