Bringing Shakespeare to Life: RSC's The Tempest Tours to Our School

On Tuesday 8th April, our school was honoured to host the Royal Shakespeare Company’s First Encounters touring production of The Tempest, offering an unforgettable day of live theatre for our Year 8 and 9 students and a wonderful evening performance for our wider community.

Designed especially for young people and new audiences, First Encounters: The Tempest is an abridged and accessible version of Shakespeare’s classic play. We were particularly proud to welcome a member of the acting company who has journeyed through the RSC’s Next Generation programme - an initiative that supports three of our own talented students to access professional theatre training and mentorship. Her journey from participant to professional performer served as a powerful example of the pathways we have available through creative opportunities offered at Sacred Heart.

Adding to the excitement, one of our very own students, Cheyenne Scott, played an important role behind the scenes. Cheyenne supported the technical elements of the performance during its staging at our school and again at its next venue, Northern Stage in Newcastle. From assisting with sound and lighting checks to helping construct the set, Cheyenne’s calm professionalism and practical ability made a real impact. We’re incredibly grateful to the Royal Shakespeare Company for bringing this opportunity to our school and for championing young talent on and off the stage.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event and helped create a memorable experience for our students and community.
