KEY STAGE 3

In Art and Design, the KS3 Curriculum content has been chosen to engage our students using themes that cover relevant social context and analysing the work of artists and designers who explore these themes. In addition to this, we will be developing core principle skills and knowledge within each year of KS3 to build a foundation of knowledge across the key stage with the overarching objective that our students will begin to develop culturally rich understanding of the subject that can encourage learning in KS4 and in careers in the future.

KEY STAGE 4

At GCSE under the AQA Art and Design specification we offer the following: 


GCSE Art and Design: 

Component 1: Portfolio (60% of GCSE across Year 10 and Year 11) – students develop personal and sustained investigations on themes of their choice. They experiment with a wide range of processes, techniques and materials such as drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics. Students are introduced to different contemporary artists and produce meaningful responses. 


Component 2: Externally set assignment (40% of GCSE, preparatory period followed by 10 hours supervised time) – students respond to their chosen starting point and develop a range of experiments and ideas. They complete a final piece in the 10 hour exam.

KEY STAGE 5

A Level Fine Art: 

Component 1: Portfolio (60% of A Level) - Students work on self-directed themes. They work across a range of disciplines through workshops covering drawing, painting, printmaking, video, installation, photography and sculpture. They will create a series of experiments and personal outcomes. Trips to local and national galleries. 


Component 2: Externally set assignment (40% of A Level, preparatory period followed by 15 hours supervised time) - students respond to their chosen starting point and develop a range of experiments and ideas. They complete a final piece in the 15 hour exam.
