A group of Year 9 students from SHHS represented the school at the latest Bright Sparks event at Newcastle University this May. They were able to explore an interesting topic that many mathematicians would not meet until undergraduate level.
Bright Sparks is a ‘stretch and challenge’ project run by RGS Partnerships that takes students beyond the specifications and provides them with a wider understanding of the subject.
The SHHS students made excellent contributions to the event, asking some brilliant questions and demonstrating their newly acquired skills in modulo arithmetic by completing puzzles that came from an assignment usually set as part of a university course in Number Theory.
There was also a competition involving students from all participating schools that was won by Zahra – well done!
