BALANCING THE EQUATION EVENT

This June, a group of Year 10 students took part in an event to empower young women to step confidently into Level 3 mathematics.

The ‘Balancing the Equation’ day is designed to develop students’ problem-solving and teamwork skills, while encouraging more female students to pursue maths Post-16.  

During the day, students collaborated in small groups on an extended mathematical problem and heard from women who use maths in their careers, including cyber security experts and a climate scientist.

Students also took the opportunity to quiz current university students and young professionals about their experiences of studying higher level maths and using maths skills at work.
