Bronze DofE Practice Expedition – Hadrian’s Wall (12th–13th September, 2025)

At the start of September, our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh team set out on their practice expedition along Hadrian’s Wall. The aim was to build confidence in key expedition skills such as map reading, navigation, camping, and cooking – and they certainly got to put all of those to the test!

The weather brought just about everything imaginable: persistent rain; blustery winds; the occasional burst of sunshine; even a spell of hail – followed by a rainbow to brighten the mood. Despite waterlogged boots and challenging conditions, every member of the group showed fantastic resilience and kept their spirits high throughout the long walk.

A special mention must go to Lizzy Laing, who lost the sole of her boot mid-expedition. Thanks to some quick thinking (and a spare pair of wellies from Mrs Maill), she was able to continue the journey without missing a step.

We are incredibly proud of the entire Bronze team. Their grit, determination, and positive attitude shone through, and they are now in excellent shape for their main expedition later this year.
