Junior LitSoc, our Year 11 lunchtime club for highly aspirational English students, is in full flow - the girls have already had seminars on subjects as varied as The Male Gaze in Film, Child Language Development and Immediate Post-War Fiction.
This week, Mrs Anita Bath, CEO of the Bishop Bewick Academy Trust, led the girls in a session on Robert Browning's Murder Poems. They focused on My Last Duchess, Browning's seminal dramatic monologue.
Mrs Bath said afterwards, "I absolutely loved today, the girls were amazing as usual. I do hope they opt for A level English Lit as there was a lot of talent in that room.
Running a Litsoc class is the highlight of my year! It’s just wonderful to work with students who share a passion for Literature and want to explore new texts and writers. Browning is one of my favourite poets and getting the chance to talk about him and see students’ reactions to his work is just fabulous.
Thank you Year 11 Litsoc for making my week!"
Next week: Mrs Webb is presenting on the key theme of Accentism.
