Our recent school trip to Rome was a truly unforgettable experience, offering our students the opportunity to explore the rich religious, historical, and cultural heritage of this magnificent city. The trip was not only an extension of our Religious Studies curriculum but also an opportunity for pilgrimage during this special Jubilee Year of Hope.

Exploring the Vatican City

A highlight for many was our visit to the Vatican City, where we were privileged to have the services of an English-speaking guide to help us navigate St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel. Walking through the Holy Doors in this special Jubilee Year was a deeply spiritual experience, reinforcing the themes of pilgrimage and faith that are central to our studies.

Walking Through History

History came alive as we explored the ancient ruins of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. This visit provided an important connection between the study of ethics, history, and philosophy, allowing students to consider how past civilisations shaped the world we live in today.

Our itinerary also included a visit to the Basilica of San Clemente, home to the stunning Tree of Life mosaic that many students study in their GCSE Religious Studies course. Seeing this artwork in person helped to contextualise its religious and artistic significance, making classroom learning come to life.

Beyond the religious and historical aspects of our journey, the students also had the chance to experience the lively culture of Rome. The visit to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps offered a perfect moment to appreciate the city's charm, while our tour of the Sacred Heart School in Rome helped us connect with our wider Sacred Heart community.

The trip was not only educational but also a time of personal growth, as reflected in the testimonials of our students

  • Monica: “I think that it was a really good trip, I loved it so much and it was a great experience.”

  • Maisie: “Rome was a great experience to socialise with other people you’ve never talked to before. I’d recommend it to lots of people.”

  • Keiya: “It was a great opportunity to see all of the landmarks and get to know about them. My favourite part was our visit to the Colosseum. I had such an amazing time and I would definitely recommend visiting Rome to others.”

  • Lily: “It was really nice to explore Rome with its churches and monuments, as well as the free time in between. It was an amazing opportunity to make new friends and push me to do things outside of my comfort zone.”

  • Jorgie: “The trip to Rome gave me a better understanding of the history around the entire city itself but also the history of the Catholic Church. Rome is truly a beautiful place full of culture and life and a place full of education where you can learn so much. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who has the opportunity to go on it!”

Grazie, Roma, for the memories—we will cherish them forever!
