A group of Year 11 GCSE students took part in a rock-climbing session this month as part of their practical assessment. This showcased not only their physical abilities but also their strong teamwork and support for each other. Taking part in rock climbing was a challenge as some were doing it for the first time, but while the task was daunting, the atmosphere of encouragement made all the difference.
The day began with a safety briefing, where the students learned essential techniques such as harnessing, belaying, and knot-tying.
They soon found themselves scaling a variety of walls, each with increasing levels of difficulty. Some students showed natural climbing abilities, while others overcame their fear of heights to complete their climbs. Throughout the session, students cheered each other on, offering words of motivation and tips on how to navigate tricky holds.
Students grew in confidence with each climb, knowing they had the backing of their friends. This adventurous trip provided them with a memorable opportunity to expand their skills outside the classroom, while fulfilling a crucial component of their GCSE practical coursework.
