This month, we welcomed representatives from the Catenian Association into school to present Ella McDermott with her trophy for winning in the Post 16 section of the annual Catenians’ public speaking competition, held at Trinity School in Middlesbrough in March. Ella’s speech entitled, ‘Why feminism is Still Important’ won her first prize and secured her place at the National Contest, which is due to be held in Manchester in September. The Catenian Association is an international, global network of proudly practicing Catholic laymen who meet to share supportive friendships, grow their faith, and strengthen family life.
Joe James and Jim McLoughlin from the Catenian Association, met with Ella and some of the Sixth Form Student Ambassadors to congratulate her on her success. This year has been a busy one for Ella as she was also a finalist in the Articulate public speaking competition. Ella explained to us that she has made a concerted effort to work on building her confidence this year and was really pleased to have had the opportunity to push herself out of her comfort zone by entering these public speaking competitions. Well done Ella – we are very proud of you! You are an inspiration to us all!
