Geography Trip to Iceland

Year 11 and Year 13 Geography students enjoyed a memorable trip to Iceland this month, exploring first-hand the country’s unique landscapes and tectonic features. The itinerary included visits to: several spectacular waterfalls; Europe's largest geothermal power station; the world famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano; the south shore black sand beaches and much more.

Aside from the volcanic environment, some particular highlights were relaxing and unwinding at the Secret Lagoon and feeding some Icelandic horses.
Unfortunately, conditions were too cloudy to see the Northern Lights during the trip (which was particularly frustrating as they could be seen from home that weekend), but this did not spoil our experience at all.
Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity for students to bring their geographical studies to life, while experiencing one of the world’s most distinctive natural environments. The Geography Department look forward to taking more students to Iceland in the future.
