NEPAL TRAINING DAY

On Friday 4th April, 6th Form students took part in a training day to best prepare them for their upcoming World Challenge expedition to Nepal in July. The day covered a wide range of activities including: fitness tests, comfort zone training, team building, kit guidance and much more!

Whilst in Nepal the team will contribute to a local community project to support a clean water initiative. Nepal faces significant challenges in achieving 'Sustainable Development Goal 6- Clean Water and Sanitation', with many rural communities relying on unprotected and contaminated water sources. Climate change exacerbates these problems, as glacial melt water and unpredictable rainfall disrupt water supplies. Ageing infrastructure and limited investment further slow progress. Women and girls bear the brunt of these issues, often walking long distances to fetch water.

Sacred Heart will work collaboratively with the local community to help support and meet their needs. The work could include: digging space for water pipes; surveying local communities to improve access to clean water; building enclosures for buffalo; and working alongside communities to establish or improve income generating opportunities through agriculture. Alongside the project work, the team will cook with local villagers, explore Kathmandu and Pokhara, trek to the Peace Pagoda and immerse themselves in Nepalese culture. We can't wait for the expedition and a trip of a lifetime- watch this space for further updates!
