This month, the Health and Social Care students, and Child Play, Learning and Development (CPLD) students, had two separate guest speakers: representatives from ‘Dementia Friends’ and ‘Rhythm Time’ Workshop.

Year 12 and Year 13 Health and Social Care students participated in ‘Dementia Friends’ training, led by Michelle Kindleysides, a ‘Dementia Friends’ trainer and Head of Health and Wellbeing at Beamish Museum.

The session provided invaluable insights into the common signs and symptoms of dementia, while also tackling widespread misconceptions about the condition. Students learned about the importance of compassion, emphasising the need to see the person before the dementia, which leads to dignified treatment and person-centred care. It was an informative and inspiring experience for all involved.
