YEAR 10 & 12 visit MATILDA THE MUSICAL

Year 10 and Year 12 Drama students travelled to the Sunderland Empire to see the award-winning musical Matilda this month. For our Year 10 GCSE Drama students, the visit offered a valuable opportunity to analyse live performance in action, from ensemble physicality and characterisation to the use of staging, lighting and sound to create mood and meaning. Year 12 students were able to look even more closely at directorial intention and design concepts, considering how set transitions and movement communicated themes of power, resilience and imagination.

Seeing a professional company bring such confidence, discipline and joy to the stage was inspiring and aspirational for our students. Experiences like this deepen understanding, broaden cultural awareness and remind our young performers of the limitless possibilities within theatre.
