With the Christmas holidays approaching, this is a perfect opportunity for students and families to enjoy reading together. Just a few minutes each day can spark curiosity, boost vocabulary, and improve concentration. Most importantly, reading for pleasure helps students develop positive habits that last far beyond the classroom.
Next year, schools across the country will be working together to champion 2026 as a National Year of Reading. Reading for all will be the national priority and there will be a focus on strengthening students’ reading skills and nurturing a lifelong love of books. At Sacred Heart, we are excited to embrace this initiative and encourage every student to discover stories, ideas, and authors that inspire them. Reading is not only essential for academic success, but it also builds confidence, broadens understanding of the world, and supports wellbeing by offering moments of calm and escape in busy lives.
We hope you’ll make space for a good book over the holidays—whether it’s a thrilling adventure, a mystery, or a favourite classic. Check out the different posts all full of recommended reads to help you get started. Happy reading, and we wish everyone a restful and book-filled Christmas!
