This week, students in Key Stage 3 were treated to engaging and highly informative assemblies led by our dedicated Year 12 and Year 13 Study Ambassadors. The sessions are part of the Sacred Heart Professional Learner Programme, which is designed to help students develop essential study skills and prepare for academic success.
As students approach their December assessment window, the timing of these assemblies could not have been better. The presentations started with an introduction to the Professional Learner Programme, tracing its roots back to Year 7’s GRIT initiative (Girls Resilience in Thinking).
This programme aims to cultivate resilience, problem-solving skills, and effective learning strategies throughout students' time at Sacred Heart. The ambassadors reminded Year 9 students that GRIT now focuses on preparing them for the academic challenges of GCSEs, revisiting vital study techniques to help them succeed. The Study Ambassadors also highlighted the resources available to support students' learning.
These include the Library Study Club, which runs after school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on weekdays. With subject teachers available on different days, it provides a fantastic opportunity for personalised academic support. Students were also encouraged to use the Sacred Heart Professional Learner Toolkit, available both in the library and online, for guidance on effective study strategies.

A major highlight of the assemblies was the practical advice shared on revision strategies.
The ambassadors introduced tools such as creating a revision timetable, emphasising the importance of managing time effectively, mixing subjects through interleaving, and finding a suitable environment for study. The emphasis on planning ahead and avoiding last-minute cramming was particularly valuable.
The ambassadors also introduced techniques like using acronyms and mnemonics to make learning memorable and enjoyable. Examples from subjects like Geography, Science, and English were incorporated to ensure students left the assemblies with practical, ready-to-use strategies. Interactive resources like flashcards and platforms such as Brainscape and Seneca were also showcased.
These tools, tailored for self-quizzing and retrieval practice, are proven to enhance memory retention and understanding. Beyond academics, the ambassadors shared tips for maintaining mental and physical well-being during assessment preparation. From the importance of sleep and balanced nutrition to the benefits of regular exercise, the advice offered a holistic approach to learning success.
The assemblies concluded with a reminder to check out the Professional Learner Programme display board in the main corridor and a motivational prayer for study preparation. The ambassadors' message was clear: assessments are not just a test of knowledge but an opportunity to grow and reflect. These sessions have been a testament to the commitment of the Study Ambassadors in fostering a culture of excellence and support.
Their enthusiasm and practical advice will undoubtedly inspire Key Stage 3 students as they continue their academic journey. A big thank you to the Year 12 and Year 13 Study Ambassadors for their dedication and for sharing their wisdom so generously.
