This Spring term, KS3 students were challenged to read around their subjects and to collect stamps for their Reading Passports. Students earned a stamp in their passport and a merit for every book read from our subject reading lists. The Passports helped to encourage students to read books that they might not usually choose and that link to the curriculum. In completing six stamps they received an invitation to afternoon tea.

The scheme was promoted in library lessons; reading cafes gave students the opportunity to browse books from the subject areas and they were instructed on how the passports work. Overall 32 students achieved all six stamps and received invitations to afternoon tea. A total of 270 stamps were collected (and merits awarded) for 270 books read from the subject lists. The most popular subjects were History, GRIT, Science and Geography. The most popular books were Race to the Frozen North by Catherine Jenson (History and Geography) and Holes by Louis Sachar (Maths).
