World Championship Irish Dancing - Lucy Shorter

Updated: Apr 25

I started dancing when I was 6 and now compete competitively at the highest level, open championship. I love dancing and competing at a feis (competition), I get to travel a lot and see different places. It is a great way to make friends, it keeps me fit and healthy and when I am dancing I get to forget about everything and enjoy the music and dance.

I dance for the Rory Patrick Academy, previously McElvogue Academy until March 2024.

I competed at my first ever World Championships on 24 March 2024. This year the Worlds were held in Glasgow and they rotate every year between UK, Ireland, America and Canada. To compete at the World Championships, you must qualify, which I did in November 2023 placing 3rd in the North East region.

I train 4 times per week and have been selected to be part of a 4 hand Cèilidh team and then work on steps at home on days I’m not at classes.

Dancing is a huge part of my life and I can’t wait to see where it takes me in the future
